My Story

Welcome to my world of repair.

Hi, I'm Geoffrey,

As a hobby I repair and service small household appliances. For a few years now I have mainly dealt with vacuum cleaners often doing several a week. The Types of Appliance page shows other types of appliance I'm happy to try to repair or service.

I’ve always been curious about how things work and have loved taking them apart to understand what’s going on inside. That curiosity naturally led me to repairing items whenever I can. There’s something really satisfying about bringing a faulty appliance back to life — not only does it save it from ending up in landfill, but it also saves the owner the cost of replacing it.

What I find both frustrating and motivating is that many manufacturers design appliances with replacement, rather than repair, in mind. Casings are often secured with brittle plastic clips, low-grade plastics that crack easily, or hidden screws with security heads. These design choices can make even simple repairs unnecessarily difficult.

That said, with patience, the right tools, and experience, most appliances can be opened and repaired successfully. While there are rare occasions where some unavoidable collateral damage occurs, careful handling and a methodical approach usually allow for effective, lasting repairs.

I am certified to undertake "Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment" (generally known as PAT testing) so I test items before I return them if necessary.

I still have a part time job and I volunteer at Dorking Repair Cafe  and the Edenbridge Repair Cafe. I have set up and run the Horley Repair Cafe @ St Wilfs, click this link to find out more - https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61570288325601

Items are brought to me by prior arrangement only, I am near the rail station in Horley, and I can usually offer a quick turnaround, subject to parts availability (if required). This saves you having to wait in for an appointment, and saves any mess in your property.  I am however willing to do call outs in some circumstances.
